Dimuth Karunaratne is a professional cricketer from Sri Lanka. He was born on April 21, 1988, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Karunaratne is a left-handed opening batsman and occasional wicket-keeper. He has represented Sri Lanka in international cricket across all three formats - Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Karunaratne made his international debut for Sri Lanka in a Test match against New Zealand in November 2012. Since then, he has become a consistent performer at the top of the order for Sri Lanka in Test cricket. Known for his solid technique and patience, Karunaratne has played many crucial innings for his team and has established himself as a reliable opening batsman.
In addition to his Test career, Karunaratne has also played ODIs and T20Is for Sri Lanka. While he hasn't achieved the same level of success in limited-overs cricket as he has in Tests, he has made valuable contributions to the team in shorter formats as well.
Karunaratne has been appointed as the captain of the Sri Lanka Test team on multiple occasions, leading the team in various series and tournaments. Under his leadership, Sri Lanka achieved notable victories, including a historic Test series win against South Africa in 2019.
