Matheesha Pathirana is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He was born on December 18, 2002, He is famous for his nickname "Baby Malinga" due to his bowling action resembling that of Lasith Malinga. Pathirana made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Sri Lanka on 27 August 2022 against Afghanistan and his One Day International (ODI) debut for Sri Lanka on 2 June 2023 against Afghanistan. He has been part of teams like Sri Lanka U19, Chennai Super Kings, Sri Lanka, Kandy Warriors, Bangla Tigers, Kandy Falcons, Desert Vipers, Colombo Strikers, and Trinbago Knight Riders

Matheesha Pathirana got a big break when the Chennai Super Kings signed him for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) as a replacement for Adam Milne. His IPL journey kicked off with a memorable debut against the Gujarat Titans. Incredibly, in his very first ball, he dismissed Shubman Gill, a significant achievement that made him the first Sri Lankan and the ninth player overall in IPL history to achieve such a feat.
Matheesha Pathirana was signed by the Kandy Falcons for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League in 2022. A significant milestone in his early career came when he became the youngest Overseas Player to win an IPL tournament after the Chennai Super Kings secured victory in the 2023 IPL.
he was named to Sri Lanka's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for a series against Australia in May 2022, Unfortunately, he couldn't play in the series as he was ruled out due to an injury.
Pathirana was selected in Sri Lanka's T20I squad for the 2022 Asia Cup. He made his T20I debut on August 27, 2022, against Afghanistan.
Matheesha Pathirana was named in both the One Day International (ODI) and T20I squads for a series against New Zealand. On June 2, 2023, he made his ODI debut against Afghanistan, taking his first ODI wicket by dismissing Rahmat Shah.
