Dasun Shanaka is a professional cricketer from Sri Lanka. He was born on September 9, 1991, in Negombo, Sri Lanka. Shanaka is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He has represented Sri Lanka in international cricket in all three formats - Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Shanaka made his international debut in limited-overs cricket for Sri Lanka in January 2016. He gained prominence during the limited-overs series against Ireland in 2016, where he achieved several notable performances with both bat and ball. Shanaka has since become a regular member of the Sri Lankan limited-overs squads.
In addition to his international career, Shanaka has also played domestic cricket in Sri Lanka. He has represented the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in domestic first-class cricket and has also played for various teams in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) and other T20 tournaments around the world.
Dasun Shanaka was appointed as the captain of the Sri Lanka T20I team in July 2021, taking over the leadership role from Lasith Malinga. He is known for his aggressive batting style and ability to hit big shots, making him a valuable asset to the Sri Lankan cricket team.
