Mohammad Rizwan is well well-known Pakistani cricketer, born on June 1, 1992. He's a brilliant wicket-keeper batter and has been playing for Pakistan since 2015. Rizwan captains Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and is renowned as one of Pakistan's best cricketers.
Rizwan is the only player to score 2,000 runs in a single year in T20 matches. He's right-handed and can keep wickets. Rizwan has scored centuries in Test, One Day Internationals, and Twenty20 Internationals. He's also Pakistan's vice-captain in Test cricket and has received awards like being one of Wisden's Cricketers of the Year in 2021 and the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year in 2021.
Rizwan led Multan Sultans to a PSL victory in 2021 and holds the record for the most T20 International runs in a calendar year, with 1326 runs in 26 innings at an incredible average of 73.66. In the Pakistan Super League, he played for Lahore Qalandars (2016-2017) and Karachi Kings (2018-2020) before captaining Multan Sultans. In domestic cricket, he also captains Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rizwan hails from Peshawar and was born into a Pashtun family. his father's name is Akhtar Parvez. He's one of six siblings, the second of three brothers. His cricket journey began with tape ball cricket, and he later joined clubs like Islamia College and the Shama Club. Eventually, he played for Peshawar Under-19 in 2007.
Mohammad Rizwan Career
Mohammad Rizwan, a talented Pakistani cricketer, began his journey in international cricket back in April 2015. He made his debut in One Day Internationals (ODIs) against Bangladesh, where he showcased his skills by scoring 67 runs. He made his Twenty20 International debut for Pakistan in the same series.
He made his Test debut for Pakistan against New Zealand on 25 November 2016. Unfortunately, in his first Test innings, he was dismissed without scoring a run. His standout performance came in March 2019 during the second ODI against Australia when he scored his first century, amassing 115 runs.
Over the years, Rizwan continued to impress and solidify his place in the team. He was named the player of the Test series on a tour to England and became Pakistan's Test team captain in December 2020 for a match against New Zealand. He further demonstrated his prowess with a splendid T20I century in February 2021, becoming the first Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman to achieve this milestone.
Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam recorded the highest partnership ever for Pakistan in T20Is in April 2021, with an outstanding 197-run partnership for the opening wicket. His remarkable form continued, and he achieved a rare feat by scoring 2,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket in a single calendar year in December 2021. In September 2022, Rizwan and Babar set a new record by scoring a partnership of 203 runs in T20 cricket without getting dismissed.
In October 2023, Mohammad Rizwan displayed his prowess yet again by scoring an unbeaten century against Sri Lanka while chasing a challenging target of 345 runs during the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
As of October 2023, Mohammad Rizwan ranked 29th in the ICC Test batting rankings with a total of 618 points. He holds the 41st position in the ICC ODI batting rankings with a total of 592 points. Mohammad Rizwan ranked 2nd position in the ICC T20 batting rankings with a total of 787 points.
