Iftikhar Ahmed is a cricketer from Pakistan. He was born on 3 September 1990 in Peshawar, Pakistan. He plays for the Pakistan national cricket team in both T20 and ODI formats. He has also been a part of different teams in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), including Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Quetta Gladiators.
Iftikhar was born into a Pashtun family. He has done something great for his community by building a cricket stadium in his home village, helping local talent to develop their skills.
In the 2017–18 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he was the leading run-scorer for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, scoring 735 runs in eleven matches. He had a standout performance in the 2016–17 Regional One Day Cup final, scoring an unbeaten 131 runs and taking three wickets for 12 runs. He was named the man of the match for this performance.
He has been the leading run-scorer in various tournaments, including the Pakistan Cup and the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Iftikhar made his international debut for Pakistan in November 2015. He has played in various formats and has even achieved a five-wicket haul in a One Day International (ODI) match against Zimbabwe.
In addition to his domestic and international cricket career, he has also played in leagues like the Afghanistan Premier League and the Bangladesh Premier League, where he scored his first T20 century while playing for Fortune Barishal. Iftikhar Ahmed is known for his contributions to Pakistani cricket and his all-round abilities as a cricketer.
Iftikhar Ahmed Career
Iftikhar Ahmed's journey in international cricket started with his One Day International (ODI) debut against England in November 2015. during the same tour. He made his Test debut against England on 11 August 2016.
In March 2016, he made his debut in the shorter format of the game, Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), during the 2016 Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka.
His international career had its share of challenges. He was initially picked for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20, but his form dipped, and he was dropped from the squad.
He made a comeback in September 2019 when he was included in Pakistan's 16-man squad for a series against Sri Lanka.
In November 2020, he achieved a significant milestone by taking his first five-wicket haul in an ODI match against Zimbabwe. His talents didn't go unnoticed, as he was awarded a central contract by the Pakistan Cricket Board in May 2020 for the 2020–21 season.
As of October 2023, Iftikhar Ahmed ranked 41st position in the ICC T20 batting rankings with a total of 506 points.
