Ashton Agar (Ashton Charles Agar) is an Australian cricketer. He plays all forms of cricket at the international level. He was born on October 14, 1993, in Melbourne. In domestic cricket, he represents Western Australia and plays for the Perth Scorchers. Agar is known for his left-handed spin bowling. He played two Test matches during the 2013 Ashes series and a total of 5 Test matches in his career. Agar was also part of the Australian team that won the 2021 T20 World Cup in Dubai and Oman.
Ashton Agar began his cricket journey by representing Australia's under-19 cricket team. He moved from Victoria to Western Australia in the 2012-13 season, where he made his debut for Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match in January 2013.
Agar also made appearances in limited-overs cricket and domestic T20 tournaments. He played for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. In domestic cricket, he played for the University at the WACA district level and previously for the Richmond Cricket Club in Victorian Premier Cricket.
Ashton Agar made his Test debut for Australia during the 2013 Ashes series, scoring 98 runs on debut, a record for a number eleven batsman. He played in the first two Tests but was then dropped due to limited success with the ball. Agar returned for Australia's Test series against Bangladesh in 2017, taking five wickets and contributing with the bat, but Australia lost the match.
In limited-overs cricket, Agar made his One Day International debut in 2015 and his Twenty20 International debut in 2016. He had a remarkable T20I performance in February 2020, taking a hat-trick and finishing with five wickets in a match.
Agar has been awarded contracts by Cricket Australia and has been part of Australia's squads for various international tournaments, including the T20 World Cup. In 2022, he was added to the Australian Test squad for the series against South Africa, marking his return to Test cricket after five years.
Agar's mother Sonia Hewawissa is from Sri Lanka, and his father John Agar is Australian. He has two younger brothers named Will and Wes. He completed his schooling at Melbourne's De La Salle College and graduated in 2011.
