Joshua Da Silva is a Trinidadian cricketer. He plays for the West Indies cricket team. He was born on 19 June 1998 in Port Of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago West Indies. He started playing cricket in his home country, Trinidad and Tobago, in 2018. He is known for his wicketkeeping and batting Skills. He bats right-handed.
Joshua has roots in Portugal, particularly in Madeira. His family heritage includes Portuguese ancestry, with both his mother and paternal grandmother being Portuguese Canadians, while his father is Trinidadian. He received his education at Saint Mary's College in Port of Spain.
Joshua Da Silva Career
Joshua began playing cricket and also represented the Queens Park Cricket Club (QPCC) While attending Saint Mary's College. He made his first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago in December 2018 during the 2018–19 Regional Four-Day Competition.
He was chosen for the West Indies Emerging Team for the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament, marking his List A debut in November 2019. during the 2019–20 West Indies Championship, he achieved his first century in first-class cricket, scoring an unbeaten 113.
He joined the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and played his first Twenty20 match in August 2020. Additionally, he was named as a reserve player in the West Indies' Test squad for their series against England in June 2020. During the series, he served as a substitute wicketkeeper due to an injury to Shane Dowrich.
Joshua Da Silva was listed as one of six backup players for the West Indies Test squad in October 2020, when they were set to play against New Zealand. Just before the second Test of the series, he was brought into the squad to replace Shane Dowrich, who had to leave the tour for personal reasons. This opportunity led to Da Silva's Test debut for the West Indies against New Zealand on December 11, 2020. he became the first Caribbean-born white player to represent the West Indies in Test cricket in half a century.
Joshua Da Silva was selected for the West Indies' One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Bangladesh. His ODI debut for the West Indies took place on January 20, 2021, against Bangladesh. Joshua Da Silva achieved a significant milestone by scoring his first Test century in a match against England in St. George's, Grenada. He was named the captain of the Windies A team for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh on May 10, 2023.
