In a major step toward improving the passport issuance system in Pakistan, two advanced e-passport printers and six desktop printers have arrived in Karachi from Germany. These high-tech machines aim to streamline the process, ensuring faster and more efficient passport delivery. To oversee their installation and integration, a foreign technical team has also arrived in the country.
Upon the arrival of the printers, Director-General of Passports, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, visited the e-printer section and received a comprehensive briefing on the installation process. He highlighted the impressive capabilities of the newly acquired machines, noting that each e-passport printer can produce up to 1,000 passports per hour. This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency and reduce processing time for applicants.
Qazi emphasized that once fully operational, the new system will not only accelerate the issuance process but also elevate Pakistan’s passport services to international standards. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities to ensure smooth and hassle-free passport issuance for citizens.
This installation follows a major upgrade last year when 10 modern passport printers were introduced, effectively doubling the production capacity of the Passport Department. With these improvements, the department increased its daily processing capability from 20,000 to 40,000 passports. The addition of the latest German printers is expected to further optimize workflow, reducing delays and benefiting thousands of Pakistanis, particularly those traveling abroad for work, education, and business.
Authorities anticipate that with these advancements, passport applicants will experience a seamless and expedited process, reinforcing Pakistan’s dedication to modernizing its travel documentation system.
