Nuchy Anucha Boonyawatana (นุชี่ อนุชา บุญยวรรธนะ), nickname is Nuchy, She is a Thai Screenwriter & Director. She was born on 4th December 1981 in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand. Anucha Boonyawatana is best known for The Blue Hour (2015), Malila: The Farewell Flower (2017), Not Me (2021), The Sweetest Taboo (2024) and Burnout Syndrome (2025).

Nuchy Anucha Boonyawatana is a celebrated Thai filmmaker whose work boldly explores themes of gender identity, spirituality, and sexuality within Thai society. As a trans woman, Anucha’s deeply personal storytelling reflects her lived experiences, challenging societal norms and illuminating the complexities of LGBTQ+ life in Thailand.

Her journey began with her thesis film Down the River, a poetic fusion of Buddhist philosophy, Thai art, and gay love. The film received critical acclaim and earned her the prestigious “Young Thai Artist Award,” signaling the arrival of a bold new voice in Thai cinema.

After years of perseverance, Nuchy Anucha Boonyawatana secured funding to produce a short version of The Blue Hour. With additional support from her production company, G Village, she expanded it into a full-length feature. Released in 2015, The Blue Hour was met with critical praise, earning awards from the Fantasia International Film Festival and FEST International Film Festival. A version of the film was also broadcast as an episode of the Thai horror anthology ThirTEEN Terrors.

In 2017, Anucha’s second feature film, Malila: The Farewell Flower, premiered at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), where it won the Kim Jiseok Award. The film further garnered the Silver Screen Award for Best Director at SGIFF, the Silver Pheasant Award at the International Film Festival of Kerala, and an Artistic Achievement award from LA Outfest. Malila was Thailand’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, solidifying Anucha’s international reputation.
