Aditya Chopra is an Indian Producer and filmmaker. He was born on May 21, 1971, in Bombay, Maharashtra, India. Currently serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of Yash Raj Films, founded by his father Yash Chopra, He has produced several successful films under this banner and established himself as one of the leading producers of Indian cinema.
He is also known for writing and directing Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Mohabbatein (2000), and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008).In 1997, Aditya Chopra under his father`s banner, Yash Raj Films produced Dil Toh Pagal Hai. After the blockbuster success of the romantic drama film directed by Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra produced Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, and Mujhse Dosti Karoge, both of the films starred his brother Uday Chopra but failed at the box office. In the year 2004, Aditya Chopra produced three films: Hum Tum, Veer Zaara, and Dhoom. All of them were smashing hits at the box office and received huge commercial and critical success.
In 2007, the film mogul produced the National Award-winning film Chak De! India, establishing YRF as a production house catering to all kinds of cinema. In between 2007 and 2010, YRF suffered some major losses and released commercial flops one after the other. Movies like Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007), Tashan (2008), Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008), Roadside Romeo (2008), and Pyaar Impossible (2010), all these movies failed to leave any impact amongst the audience.
After the release of the crime comedy film Badmaash Company, the filmmaker took over as the Vice-President of Yash Raj Films and produced films like Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies VS Ricky Bahl, Ishaqzaade, and Shuddh Desi Romance.
In 2012 and 2013, Yash Raj Films produced record-breaking commercial films like Ek Tha Tiger, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Dhoom 3. In 2012, after the demise of Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra was made the Chairman of YRF. Subsequently, he produced Gunday, Bewakoofiyaan, Mardaani, Dawaat-e-Ishq, and Kill Dill. 2015 saw YRF’s foray into non-commercial and offbeat cinema, with films like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, and Title. Replicating the success of Ek Tha Tiger, he made the action-drama film Sultan, with Salman Khan in 2016.
Chopra, the elder son of the late filmmaker Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra, was born on 21 May 1971. He completed his formal education and acquired his Indian Certificate of Secondary Education from Bombay Scottish School. He graduated from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics along with Anil Thadani, Karan Johar (who is his first cousin) and Abhishek Kapoor
