Karthi is an Indian actor who works in the Tamil and Telugu film industry in leading and supporting roles. He was born on 25 May 1977 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India.
Karthi made his acting debut in Paruthiveeran in 2007, which garnered critical acclaim and several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His next role was as the lead in the action-adventure film Aayirathil Oruvan (2010), directed by Selvaraghavan.
During the release of his subsequent films – Paiyaa (2010), Naan Mahaan Alla (2010), and Siruthai (2011) – he achieved successive commercial success.
Despite appearing in a number of box office flops, he rose to fame with films such as Madras (2014), Thozha (2016), Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Kadaikutty Singam (2018), Kaithi (2019), and Thambi (2019).
He had three critical and commercial successes in 2022, Viruman (2022), Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022), and Sardar (2022), which promoted his career.
Karthi studied at the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan school and at St. Bede Anglo-Indian Upper Secondary School in Chennai. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Crescent Engineering College, Chennai.
He gained a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York. Karthi was born to a Hindu family. He belongs to the Kongu Vellalar Gounder Caste.
Karthi’s father, Sivakumar, is an Indian film actor and visual artist, and his mom Lakshmi is a Homemaker. He has an elder brother Suriya one of the top actor in Tamil cinema and a younger sister, Brindha Sivakumar.
On 3 July 2011, Karthi arranged married Ranjani Chinnaswamy in a traditional style. They have a daughter, ‘Umayaal,’ who was born in 2013. In October 2020, Ranjani gave birth to a boy whom they named Kandhan. Ranjani graduated with M.A. in English Literature and is a gold medalist from Stella Maris College in Chennai.
