Sumit Purohit is an notable Indian writer, director and editor. He was born in Mumbai, India. Sumit Purohit is best known for his exceptional work on the Sony Liv original series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. Directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment, the series is based on the investigative book by journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashis Basu. The show received widespread critical acclaim for its gripping narrative, tight screenplay, and stellar performances, cementing Sumit’s reputation in the Indian entertainment industry.

Sumit Purohit was selected as one of the artists for the prestigious BAFTA Breakthrough Program – India edition, further validating his contribution to storytelling and cinematic craft. He has also co-written notable projects like Bangistan and Inside Edge, Amazon Prime Video’s first Indian original series, which was produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. He continued contributing to the success of the franchise by working on its second season as well.

Sumit holds a degree in Art History and Aesthetics from the Faculty of Fine Arts at MSU, Baroda. He began his career with the screenplay for Nandu ka Raja, a film produced for the Children’s Film Festival of India. His documentary I Woke Up One Morning & Found Myself Famous was widely screened across India and appreciated for its originality. In addition, he has directed ad and corporate films for major brands like Coca Cola, Microsoft, Asian Paints, and Finolex.

Currently, Sumit’s debut feature documentary Charlie Champion is in post-production, and he is actively developing new projects with top-tier production houses.
