Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has recently introduced three new Bachelor of Science (BS) programs for students: BS E-Commerce, BS Psychology, and BS Political Science. These programs are part of the university’s efforts to expand learning options and meet the growing educational needs of students from different academic backgrounds.
These new degree programs have been added under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. The goal is to offer students a wider range of subjects so they can choose careers that match their interests and the demands of today’s job market.
The decision to launch these programs was taken during a recent Faculty Board meeting. The meeting was led by Dean Professor Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir, who played a key role in approving the new additions. During the session, the board also approved updated study plans for various academic levels including undergraduate, MPhil, PhD, and other postgraduate degrees across different departments.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the meeting also focused on revising existing courses and introducing new subjects to ensure that the university’s curriculum stays up to date with modern academic and professional standards. These changes are aimed at improving the quality of education and making students more prepared for the challenges of the real world.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir highlighted that all academic programs, including the newly introduced ones, will fully follow the policies and guidelines of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). He also assured that AIOU remains committed to offering high-quality education, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood.
He further shared that, as per government instructions, courses like Fahm-ul-Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi have already been made a part of every degree program. These courses are meant to strengthen students’ moral and spiritual education. In addition to that, AIOU is also planning to add courses related to Pakistani regional languages. This step is aimed at celebrating and promoting the linguistic and cultural heritage of the country.
All faculty members were advised to ensure that the newly introduced degree programs strictly meet the required credit hours, academic structure, and policy standards. Once these conditions are met, the programs will be forwarded to the Academic Council for final approval.
In the same meeting, Lecturer Dr. Munir Khattak also presented a new proposal titled Undergraduate Rules, Regulations, and Procedures (URRP) 2025. These rules are designed to benefit both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) students and those attending classes on campus. The proposal was well-received and unanimously approved by all members present.
Lastly, it was confirmed that all the decisions and suggestions made during this Faculty Board meeting will now be sent to the Academic Council and the Executive Council for their final review and endorsement in the upcoming sessions.
