The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday to look for the moon of Zilhajj 1446 Hijri. This moon sighting will help determine the beginning of the Islamic month of Zilhajj, which is very important for Muslims around the world.
The meeting will be led by the Chairman, Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad. He will guide the members of the committee as they try to see the new moon, which is a traditional way to start a new Islamic month.
At the same time, the Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will also meet in their own cities. These committees are located in different parts of the country, and each one will check the sky in their area to help confirm if the moon has been sighted.
Zilhajj is the last month of the Islamic calendar. During this month, millions of Muslims travel to Makkah in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, which is one of the five main pillars of Islam. Hajj is a religious journey that every Muslim must try to do at least once in their lifetime if they are able.
The moon sighting is also important because it helps decide the date of Eid al-Adha, one of the most important Islamic festivals. Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Zilhajj. According to early predictions, Eid al-Adha this year may be on Saturday, the 7th.
Eid al-Adha, also called the Festival of Sacrifice, honors the story of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham). In Islamic tradition, Prophet Ibrahim was ready to sacrifice his son when God asked him to. But just as he was about to do so, God provided a ram to be sacrificed instead. This act of faith and obedience is remembered by Muslims every year.
To follow this tradition, Muslims around the world slaughter animals such as goats, cows, or camels. This act is called Qurbani. The meat from the sacrificed animal is then divided into three parts: one part is for the family, one part is given to relatives and friends, and the last part is given to the poor and needy. This sharing teaches the values of charity, kindness, and unity in the Muslim community.
The process of sacrificing animals usually continues for three days after Eid. During this time, Muslims also wear their best clothes, offer special prayers at mosques or prayer grounds, and spend time with family and friends.
Eid al-Adha is a time of joy, reflection, and giving. It reminds Muslims of the importance of faith, obedience to God, and caring for others.
