Zilhaj Moon Sighting 2025: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meeting Today

Zilhaj Moon Sighting 2025: Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meeting Today

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold an important meeting in Islamabad today (Tuesday) to look for the Zilhaj moon, which will mark the beginning of the Islamic month Zilhaj 1446 Hijri. This meeting is very important because it will help determine the exact date for Eidul Adha 2025 in Pakistan.

The meeting will be led by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who is the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. At the same time, all zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees in different parts of the country will also meet at their local offices to observe the sky and report any sighting of the moon.

What Is SUPARCO Saying About the Moon Sighting?

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has shared a scientific update about the moon. According to their experts, there is a very low chance of seeing the Zilhaj moon on the evening of May 27, 2025.

SUPARCO explained that the new moon will be born on May 27 at 8:02 in the morning. However, by the time the sun sets that evening, the moon will only be 11 hours and 34 minutes old. A younger moon is harder to see, especially without perfect weather or clear skies.

They also said that the moon will only remain in the sky for 37 minutes after sunset on May 27. This short window makes it even harder to spot the crescent moon that evening.

Based on scientific research, astronomical calculations, and the latest observation tools, SUPARCO has predicted that the moon is more likely to be seen on the evening of May 28 instead.

In a statement, SUPARCO added, “The visibility of the moon depends on several things like the moon’s age, its distance from the sun, how high it is in the sky at sunset, and the weather conditions.”

When Will Eidul Adha 2025 Be Celebrated in Pakistan?

The exact date of Eidul Adha depends on when the Zilhaj moon is seen:

  • If the moon is sighted on May 27, Eidul Adha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6.
  • If the moon is sighted on May 28, Eidul Adha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7.

So, people across the country are waiting for the final moon sighting announcement to make preparations for one of the most important Islamic festivals of the year.

What Is Eidul Adha and Why Is It Celebrated?

Eidul Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated by Muslims around the world every year. It honors the great sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Prophet Ismael (AS). According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Ibrahim was ready to sacrifice his son to follow Allah’s command. But before he could do so, Allah replaced his son with a ram, showing that his loyalty and faith had passed the test.

To remember this act of obedience, Muslims perform the ritual of animal sacrifice—usually a goat, cow, or camel—during Eidul Adha. The meat is then shared with family, friends, and especially with the poor and needy.

This festival is a time of unity, charity, and spiritual reflection. It also marks the end of Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage to Makkah, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.
