Young Batsman Haider Ali Cleared of Charges After UK Police Investigation

Pakistan’s young cricketer Haider Ali has been cleared of rape allegations in the United Kingdom after police closed an investigation due to lack of evidence.

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP), in coordination with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), confirmed that the case against the 24-year-old batsman has been formally closed. Authorities stated that there was “insufficient evidence” to proceed further.

Haider Ali was accused by a British-Pakistani woman of assault at a Manchester hotel. The complaint was filed on August 4, and the cricketer was arrested the same day at the Spitfire County Cricket Ground in Kent, where he was representing Pakistan Shaheens. He was later transferred to Canterbury Police Station for questioning.

With the case now dropped, Haider Ali’s passport has been returned, and he is free to travel and resume cricket commitments without restrictions.

The incident had also placed the Shaheens team management under scrutiny, with head coach Imran Farhat and captain Saud Shakeel questioned during the investigation.

Haider Ali, who made his international debut in 2020 and was once seen as one of Pakistan’s brightest batting prospects, had been suspended from all cricket activities by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while the case was under investigation. The PCB has yet to issue a statement on his clearance or his possible return to domestic cricket.

For now, the development comes as a major relief for the young player, giving him the chance to focus on reviving his career. Whether he will return to the national team setup remains uncertain.
