Summer holidays for schools across Punjab are currently scheduled to end on August 15, 2025. However, many parents and students are still waiting for an official update. They want to know if the government will extend the holidays due to the ongoing hot weather in several parts of the province.
Back in May 2025, the education department issued a notification stating that all public and private schools in Punjab would reopen on August 15. This date was meant to mark the official return of students and teachers to academic life after the long summer break.
Will Schools Reopen on Time?
As of now, the Punjab government has not made any official announcement about extending the summer vacations. Some media reports suggest that officials are closely monitoring the weather conditions. A final decision might be taken in the coming days if the heatwave continues or if there are other concerns affecting students’ health and safety.
Many schools are expecting low attendance on the first day of reopening. If no changes are made, academic activities are likely to pick up fully from Monday, August 18, after the weekend break. Teachers may use the first few days to review past lessons or conduct introductory sessions for the new term.
What Are the School Timings in Punjab?
The School Education Department has already shared the official school timings for both single and double-shift schools across the province. These timings are designed to help students avoid the hottest part of the day and to maintain a balanced routine.
Single Shift Schools:
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM
- Friday: 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Double Shift Schools:
Morning Shift
- Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM
- Friday: 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Evening Shift
- Monday to Thursday: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM
- Friday: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
These timings apply to both public and private institutions unless individual schools receive special instructions.
If you’re a parent, student, or teacher in Punjab, it’s a good idea to keep checking updates from the School Education Department or local news outlets. With unpredictable weather conditions, changes to the school calendar can happen on short notice.
