Why ICC Fined Mohammed Siraj During the England Test – All You Need to Know

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined 15% of his match fee for breaking the ICC’s Code of Conduct during the ongoing Test match between India and England at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

The incident happened on Day 4 of the match when Siraj showed an aggressive reaction after taking a wicket. According to officials, Siraj got too close to England batter Ben Duckett while celebrating the dismissal. He not only made an intense gesture but also made slight physical contact with Duckett as the batter began walking back to the pavilion. The moment was captured on live television and quickly caught the attention of match referees.

Siraj was found guilty of breaching Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This rule focuses on preventing players from using words, actions, or gestures that can provoke or disrespect a dismissed batter during an international game. The ICC stated that Siraj’s actions could have led to a negative or angry response from the batter, which is why the penalty was given.

Along with the fine, Siraj was also handed one demerit point. This is now his second offence in the last 24 months, which means he has two demerit points in total. According to ICC rules, if a player collects four or more demerit points in a 24-month period, they face suspension from international matches. So, Siraj is now halfway toward a possible ban if he gets penalized again in the near future.

The heated exchange between Siraj and Duckett was just one of several tense moments in what has been a dramatic and highly competitive Test match. With the match heading into its final day, the pressure is building on both teams.

India, chasing a target of 193 runs, still needs 135 more runs to win. However, the team is struggling at 58/4, having already lost four key wickets. The English bowling attack has been very aggressive, and the pitch at Lord’s is beginning to wear out, making batting even more difficult. The crowd at Lord’s is also fully behind the home team, adding to the tense atmosphere.

This Test is part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, which is currently level at 1-1. India bounced back strongly in the second match of the series after losing the first Test by five wickets. They won the second match with a massive margin of 336 runs, showing excellent performance with both bat and ball.

As Day 5 approaches, cricket fans around the world are eagerly waiting to see how the thrilling match ends. Can India pull off a dramatic win, or will England’s bowlers seal the victory at their home ground?
