WhatsApp is building a brand-new feature for its web version that will make it easier for users to view all the media and files shared in their chats. This upcoming tool is called the Chat Media Hub, and it’s currently in the development stage. Although it hasn’t been officially released yet, WhatsApp has confirmed it will be included in a future update.
The Chat Media Hub will act as a central place where users can view all shared media and files from every chat, all in one spot. This means you won’t have to open each individual conversation just to find an image, video, or document. Whether the content was shared in a private chat, group chat, or community group, it will all show up in this one organized section.
The new feature will appear as a separate section on the sidebar of WhatsApp’s web version. Once opened, users will be able to browse through photos, videos, GIFs, documents, and even shared links. Each media item will also show extra details, such as who sent it and when it was sent. This makes it easier to remember where a file came from without jumping back into old chats.
Better Search and File Control
WhatsApp is also planning to add some helpful tools to the Chat Media Hub. One of these tools will be a search feature that lets users look for files using keywords from captions. For example, if someone sent a photo with the caption “Birthday party,” you can simply type those words to find it.
Additionally, users will be able to sort files based on different filters:
- Newest files first
- Oldest files first
- Largest file size
Another useful feature is the multi-select option, which allows users to choose several items at once. With this, you can download, forward, or delete multiple files quickly, without having to go through each one separately. This will be especially helpful for people who want to manage their storage or clean up unwanted media files.
A Step Beyond Previous Updates
In past updates, WhatsApp tested a similar feature for community group chats on the Android beta version. However, this new Chat Media Hub on the web will be more advanced. Instead of limiting the feature to only group conversations, it will cover all types of chats. This makes it a much better and more complete solution for keeping track of shared media.
When Will It Be Available?
Right now, the Chat Media Hub is still under development, and WhatsApp hasn’t given an exact date for when it will be released. It’s not available to the public yet, not even for beta users. However, WhatsApp has confirmed that the feature will be included in one of its future updates for the web version.
