WhatsApp is working on an exciting new feature that will allow users to share their favorite music tracks from Spotify directly in their status updates. According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.8.3) reveals that when users choose to share music from Spotify, they will see an additional option to post the track as a WhatsApp status update. This new option will be available alongside the existing feature, which allows users to send the song as a direct message to individual contacts or groups.
If users opt to share a song as a status update, WhatsApp will process the link and generate a preview for the shared track. This preview will include essential details such as the song title, artist name, and album cover, ensuring an engaging and visually rich display. The status update will allow users to share their musical tastes effortlessly while giving their contacts a quick way to discover new songs.
This feature closely resembles the way Spotify music sharing works on Instagram Stories. When a user posts a song to their Instagram Story, it appears with a similar preview, allowing viewers to interact with the content. WhatsApp’s integration aims to provide a comparable experience within its own platform, making status updates more dynamic and engaging.
Additionally, WhatsApp will introduce a “Play on Spotify” button within the status update. This means that viewers will be able to tap the button and instantly open the shared track in the Spotify app, eliminating the need to manually search for the song. This seamless integration will make music sharing on WhatsApp more convenient and user-friendly.
Privacy remains a top priority for WhatsApp, and the company has ensured that shared music updates will remain protected under its end-to-end encryption. This means that WhatsApp itself will not have access to the specific songs users share, and only the intended audience will be able to view the status update.
