WhatsApp is working on a brand-new feature that will let users reply to specific messages in separate threads—just like you can in popular chat platforms such as Discord and Slack. This feature is still being developed and is expected to roll out in a future update for both iOS and Android users.
What is the Threaded Reply Feature?
This new feature is designed to make conversations more organized, especially in large group chats where multiple people reply to the same message. When this feature is live, every message in a chat may show a small label that tells you how many replies it has. If you tap on that label, a new screen will open, showing all the replies linked to that specific message in one place.
This makes it easier for users to follow conversations without getting confused or lost in the middle of unrelated replies. Instead of scrolling up and down trying to connect replies, everything will be neatly grouped under the original message.
How Will It Work?
- When someone replies to a message, it will create a small “thread.”
- You can tap on the message to see all replies linked to it.
- All responses will be shown in a separate view but still connected to the original chat.
- You can also send your own reply within that thread without switching apps or screens.
- If any reply is generated using AI or system tools, it will carry a watermark to show that it was system-assisted.
This is a useful addition, especially in big WhatsApp groups, where conversations often get messy. Threading will help keep discussions neat and easy to follow. It will also allow users to participate in specific discussions without interrupting the flow of the main chat.
When Will It Be Available?
The threaded reply feature was recently discovered in version 25.19.10.80 of the WhatsApp iOS beta, which is available through TestFlight for beta users. It has also been spotted in WhatsApp’s Android beta version, showing that the update is being developed for both platforms at the same time.
As of now, the feature is still under internal testing, so it is not available for regular users or even public beta testers yet. However, those who are part of the beta program will likely be among the first to experience it once WhatsApp considers it stable enough for wider testing.
This new feature is another step by WhatsApp to improve how we communicate, especially in large and fast-moving chats. As testing continues, users can look forward to a more organized and user-friendly chatting experience.
