West Indies Likely to Reject PCB’s Request to Replace ODIs with T20s

West Indies Likely to Reject PCB's Request to Replace ODIs with T20s

The West Indies Cricket Board, known as Cricket West Indies (CWI), is expected to turn down a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding changes in the schedule for Pakistan’s upcoming tour of the Caribbean.

The PCB had officially proposed turning the planned One Day International (ODI) series into more T20 International (T20I) matches. According to PCB officials, the reason behind this request was to help Pakistan’s national team get more experience and match practice in the T20 format. This practice is considered important ahead of two major T20 tournaments: the 2025 ACC Men’s Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Both of these tournaments will be played in the T20 format, so the PCB wants the players to be better prepared by playing more T20 matches instead of ODIs during the West Indies tour.

Despite several rounds of discussions and strong efforts from the PCB to get the changes approved, CWI appears to be unwilling to make any adjustments. Sources suggest that CWI is committed to sticking with the original schedule that includes both ODIs and T20Is.

As a result, Pakistan is now likely to play the full three-match ODI series along with the already scheduled three-match T20I series. The tour will begin with the T20Is, which are set to kick off on July 31 (August 1 in Pakistan Standard Time). After that, the ODIs will take place on August 8, 10, and 12.

Had the CWI accepted the PCB’s proposal, the number of T20I matches might have increased to five or even six, while the ODIs would have been removed completely. However, that now seems unlikely.

Although an official confirmation is still awaited, the final decision is expected soon. At this point, it appears the original plan will stay the same, with no changes to the number or format of matches.

Pakistan’s squad for the West Indies tour will be announced along with the team selected for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. This approach will help streamline preparations for both tours and keep the players focused on the formats they will be playing.

For both Pakistan and the West Indies, this series is important. Both teams are currently going through a rebuilding phase and are eager to test new player combinations, especially in white-ball cricket. The matches will provide valuable game time and help the teams build momentum as they prepare for future international tournaments.
