Visa (NYSE: V), a global leader in digital payments, has announced that cardholders in Pakistan can now add their Visa cards to Google Wallet. The announcement was made at a Visa-hosted event attended by key figures from Pakistan’s financial sector.
Starting today, Visa cardholders from HBL, Bank Alfalah, UBL, and Meezan Bank can link their cards to Google Wallet on Android and Wear OS devices. This enables contactless payments at supported locations. JS Bank, Allied Bank, Zindigi, and Easypaisa will be added soon. As digital payments grow in Pakistan, this feature offers both residents and travelers a secure and convenient way to pay using their smartphones.
Security is a key focus of Google Pay, which uses tokenization to replace card details with a unique digital token. This technology helps prevent fraud and enhances transaction approval rates.
Umar Khan, Visa’s Country Manager for Pakistan and Afghanistan, stated, “We are excited to expand Pakistan’s digital payment landscape through our partnership with Google. With 84% of retail payments in 2024 being digital, this integration meets rising consumer demand for secure and seamless transactions. Plus, Pakistanis can use Google Wallet globally for a hassle-free payment experience.”
Farhan Qureshi, Google Pakistan’s Country Director, added, “Pakistan’s digital payments sector is evolving rapidly. Google Wallet makes transactions safer and easier, whether shopping, paying in stores, or managing travel essentials like boarding passes. This launch also supports financial inclusion and economic growth in Pakistan, reinforcing Google’s commitment to its digital future.”
By joining forces, Visa and Google are making digital payments more accessible, ensuring both consumers and businesses benefit from cutting-edge financial technology.
