The UAE has officially announced the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays schedule for government employees across the country.
According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, the holiday will start on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, based on the Islamic calendar. Work will resume on Shawwal 4.
The Moon sighting in the UAE is scheduled for March 29, as Islamic months can be either 29 or 30 days long. Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, will be observed on Shawwal 1.
If the crescent moon is spotted on March 29, Eid-ul-Fitr holidays will begin on Sunday, March 30, following the Gregorian calendar. Since Saturday is already a weekend for most employees, this would create a four-day break from March 29 to April 1.
However, if the Moon is not visible that evening and Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid will begin on March 31. In this case, residents will enjoy a five-day holiday from March 29 to April 2.
Government employees in Sharjah, where Friday is a designated weekend for the public sector, could get an even longer break.
If Eid falls on Sunday, March 30, Sharjah’s government employees will have a five-day holiday from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. But if Eid is confirmed for Monday, March 31, they will get a six-day break from Friday, March 28, to Wednesday, April 2.
