In preparation for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, Afghanistan and Pakistan are set to compete in a three-match ODI series from August 22 to 26 in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan holds the second position in the ICC ODI rankings, while Afghanistan stands at the eighth position.
The series will take place in Sri Lanka, with the first two matches scheduled for August 22 and 24 in Hambantota, followed by the final ODI in Colombo on August 26.
This will be the fifth time Afghanistan and Pakistan meet in ODIs, with Pakistan having won all previous encounters. Following the series, both teams will travel to Pakistan, where the Asia Cup 2023 will kick off with a match between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30.
Afghanistan’s cricket board has announced an 18-player squad for the series, which serves as a warm-up for both the Asia Cup and the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup in India. The squad includes standout performer Noor Ahmad from the Indian T20 League 2023, as well as fast bowlers Mohammad Saleem Safi and Wafadar Momand.
Pakistan’s selection committee, led by Inzamam-ul-Haq, has introduced new faces like Tayyab Tahir, Faheem Ashraf, and Saud Shakeel to their ODI squad.
