The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has made a crucial decision to relocate all the Super 4 matches of the Asia Cup 2023 from Colombo to Hambantota. This move comes in response to a prolonged period of predicted rainfall in Colombo for the next 15 days, which posed a significant risk of disrupting the scheduled matches.
The decision was made after careful consideration of the weather forecast, which indicated a high likelihood of rain affecting the games. If India manages to defeat Nepal on Monday, then the highly anticipated Super Four clash between Pakistan and India will also take place in Hambantota.
Furthermore, there is contemplation regarding the inclusion of a reserve day for the India-Pakistan encounter. This precautionary measure is being considered due to the unfortunate abandonment of their group-stage match, which didn’t see a single ball bowled in the second innings.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already expressed its concerns to the ACC, and the ACC has assured effective coordination to address these concerns.
According to the BBC Weather forecast, Colombo is expected to experience thundery showers for the next 15 days.
It’s important to note that the ACC has faced criticism for choosing Sri Lanka as the host country for the Asia Cup, especially during a period when rain is traditionally expected in the region.
The following Super 4 matches will be relocated to Hambantota:
Sept 9: B1 vs B2 at 2:30 pm (PST) |
Sept 10: Pakistan vs India at 2:30 pm (PST) |
Sept 12: India vs B1 at 2:30 pm (PST) |
Sept 14: Pakistan vs B1 at 2:30 pm (PST) |
Sept 15: India vs B2 at 2:30 pm (PST) |
Sept 17: Final at 2:30 pm (PST) |
This move aims to ensure the smooth continuation of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament in light of the adverse weather conditions in Colombo.
