Arlene Kelly (Arlene Nora Kelly) is an Irish cricketer who plays for Dragons Women and Ireland. She was born on 8 January 1994 in Auckland, New Zealand. She has previously played for Auckland Hearts, New Zealand Development Women, and Kent. She made her international debut for Ireland in June 2022.
Her father was also born in New Zealand, and her Irish roots run deep, as both her grandparents and her mother are from Ireland. Kelly made a name for herself in cricket, playing for the Auckland Hearts in New Zealand from 2012 to 2022. She reached a significant milestone in December 2018, earning her 50th cap for the club.
She scored 110 runs in the final of the 2019–20 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, helping the Auckland Hearts secure a 67-run victory over the Northern Spirit and claim the championship. She also had a stint as an overseas player for Kent in 2018.
Arlene Kelly Career
Prior to the 2022 women's domestic cricket season in Ireland, Arlene Kelly signed up with the Dragons to participate in the 2022 Arachas Super 20 Trophy and the 2022 Arachas Super 50 Cup.
In May 2022, Arlene Kelly's talent earned her a spot in Ireland's Women's One Day International (WODI) and Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squads for their series against South Africa. This opportunity came because nine of Ireland's regular players were unavailable, and Kelly described it as a pleasant surprise to receive the call from Ireland's head coach, Ed Joyce. She was in Ireland to play for the Dragons, but the timing was perfect for her to join the national team.
Kelly made her WT20I debut on June 3, 2022, playing for Ireland against South Africa. During the match, she took two wickets, one of which was South African captain Suné Luus. Ireland won the match by ten runs, marking only their second WT20I victory against South Africa, with the first win occurring in August 2016. Kelly also made her WODI debut on June 11, 2022, in the same series against South Africa.
