Aiden Markram was born to Kyle Markram and Gina Markram in 1994. Aiden Markram has a sister named Paige Markram. Aiden Markram married his longtime girlfriend Nicole O’Connor in 2021. Markram became the first South African captain to lead his team to U19 World Cup glory in 2014. He made his international Test debut against Bangladesh in September 2017, where he was out for 97.
Aiden Markram Career
Markram began his cricket career in 2014 with the Northern Cricket team. In 2017, he was named Domestic Newcomer of the Year by Cricket South Africa. He played in various T20 tournaments, including the Mzansi Super League and the Indian Premier League. Markram also signed with Hampshire County Cricket Club and played a crucial role in the Titans' victory in the Momentum One Day Cup. In 2023, he was appointed as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League after leading Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory in the SA20 championship.
Aiden Markram was named in South Africa's Test squad in June 2017 but didn't play. He captained South Africa A in 2017. His Test debut for South Africa came in September 2017 against Bangladesh, where he made an impressive start. In 2018, he became South Africa's ODI captain temporarily due to Faf du Plessis' injury. Markram was the second youngest player to captain South Africa in ODIs. Markram scored his career-best 152 runs in a Test match in March 2018. He faced challenges in Sri Lanka in 2018, especially against spin bowling. He made his T20I debut in 2019 and was part of South Africa's 2019 Cricket World Cup squad.
Markram faced difficulties in away matches, particularly in the subcontinent. In December 2019, he was injured, missing the remainder of the Test series. In 2021, he made a comeback with a century against Pakistan and performed well in the series. In March 2023, he was appointed as the T20I captain for South Africa. In October 2023, he scored the fastest century in a men’s Cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka, reaching the milestone in 49 deliveries, although he was dismissed soon after for 106 off 54.
