Afghanistan has included the promising all-rounder Abdul Rahman in their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on June 2. The 21-year-old Rahman, who possesses right-arm medium-fast bowling skills, earned his spot in the team due to an impressive performance in the Green Afghanistan One-Day Cup. Representing the Hindukush Strikers, he showcased his abilities with two half-centuries and seven wickets across his last five List A matches.
Under the leadership of Hashmatullah Shahidi, the 15-man squad comprises a formidable spin contingent, including renowned players such as Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Noor Ahmad. These spinners will utilize the series as an opportunity to refine their skills in preparation for the upcoming World Cup in India. Afghanistan has directly qualified for the World Cup, while Sri Lanka will need to go through the qualification round.
The squad consists of Hashmatullah Shahidi as captain, with Rahmat Shah as vice-captain. Other notable players include Rahmanullah Gurbaz as the wicketkeeper, along with Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhail as another wicketkeeper option, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Abdul Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, and Farid Ahmad Malik. Additionally, the reserves comprise Gulbadain Naib, Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, and Zia ur Rahman Akbar.
All three ODIs between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will be held in Hambantota.
