Sindh Government Declares Public Holidays on July 5 and 6 for Ashura 2025

Sindh Government Announces Public Holidays

The Sindh government has officially declared Saturday, July 5, and Sunday, July 6, 2025, as public holidays throughout the province in observance of Ashura, which falls on the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 A.H.

This announcement was made through a notification issued on July 1 by the Services, General Administration & Coordination Department. According to the notification, all government offices, semi-government institutions, autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, local councils, and public corporations under the Sindh government will remain closed on these two days. However, departments providing essential services, such as hospitals, emergency services, water supply, and law enforcement, will continue their operations as usual.

The official declaration was issued on the orders of Chief Secretary Sindh, Mr. Asif Hyder Shah, and has been sent to all concerned departments for immediate action and awareness.

Why Ashura is Important

Ashura is one of the most important and emotional days for Muslims, especially for Shia Muslims. It is observed to honor the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He was martyred in the historic Battle of Karbala while standing against injustice and tyranny. Every year, millions of Muslims around the world commemorate this day with mourning processions, prayers, and religious gatherings.

Security Measures and Public Guidance

To ensure peace and safety, the government has decided to tighten security arrangements across Sindh during these two days. Religious processions will take place in major cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas, and thousands of people are expected to participate.

Police, Rangers, and other law enforcement agencies will be deployed to maintain law and order. Security checks, road closures, and alternative traffic plans will also be announced to manage the crowds and avoid any untoward incidents.

Citizens have been requested to cooperate with the authorities, follow the guidelines, and observe Ashura with respect, discipline, and religious devotion.
