Pakistan’s 7-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in the first T20I match has led to serious criticism — not just from fans, but also from cricket legends like former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Speaking after the match, Akhtar openly shared his disappointment with the team’s overall performance and said Pakistan is still making the same old mistakes without learning anything new.
Shoaib Akhtar: “Pakistan Is Still Living in the Past”
Shoaib Akhtar appeared on a local television show shortly after Pakistan’s loss in Dhaka on Sunday. During the show, he criticized the team’s outdated tactics and slow progress in the shortest format of the game. According to him, the players failed to build on a decent start and fell apart quickly — a pattern that fans have seen too many times.
“Pakistan is still stuck in an old mindset,” Akhtar said. “We often get a good start but don’t make the most of it. After Fakhar Zaman, no other batsman stood up.”
Fakhar Zaman was the only player who showed some fight, scoring 44 runs off 34 balls. But once he got out, Pakistan’s batting collapsed. The rest of the team struggled to handle the pressure and were bowled out for just 110 runs — a total far below average in modern T20 matches.
Lack of Key Bowlers Hurt Pakistan’s Defense
Shoaib Akhtar also highlighted how Pakistan’s bowling department looked weak without experienced pacers like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, both of whom were missing from the match. These two are known for their ability to take early wickets and control the flow of runs, especially in T20s.
“We clearly missed Shaheen and Naseem,” Akhtar said. “They are specialist bowlers and could have turned things around for us. But even they might have struggled with such a low target to defend.”
Bangladesh Dominated the Run Chase
Despite a promising debut from young bowler Salman Mirza, who looked energetic and sharp, the rest of Pakistan’s bowling attack failed to apply pressure. Bangladeshi opener Parvez Hossain Emon played a calm and confident innings, scoring an unbeaten 56 runs, while Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali gave him solid support.
Bangladesh chased the target easily in just 15.3 overs, winning the game comfortably on a pitch that wasn’t even perfect for batting. Their performance looked more focused and planned compared to Pakistan’s scattered effort.
Next Match Is a Must-Win for Pakistan
Now, Pakistan is under serious pressure. If they lose the next match, they will lose the series as well. With this defeat, the team is once again facing big questions about its consistency, team selection, and game strategy. Many former players feel the side is not improving or learning from past failures — especially when playing overseas.
Shoaib Akhtar made it clear that the problem is not just losing a match — it’s about repeating the same errors again and again without changing the game plan.
“It’s frustrating,” he said. “We’ve been seeing this for years. The team isn’t evolving. We aren’t learning from our defeats.”
The Road Ahead: Big Decisions Needed
With the second match around the corner, the Pakistan team must rethink its strategy. Batters need to play more responsibly, and bowlers must step up in the absence of senior players. If they don’t act fast, the team could fall deeper into crisis — and face even more criticism from fans and experts.
Pakistan’s next game is now not just about saving the series, but also about showing they can grow, learn, and adapt in international T20 cricket.
