Shahid Afridi Confident in Pakistan Champions Ahead of World Championship of Legends 2025

Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has shown great faith in the Pakistan Champions squad as they prepare for the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. Afridi said that the team is full of energy and ready to win the title this year after coming close last time. He believes the players are determined to overcome the final challenge and bring the trophy home.

The second season of the World Championship of Legends will begin on Friday, July 18, at the iconic Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, England. The opening match of the tournament will feature Pakistan Champions taking on England Champions, setting the stage for an exciting series.

This year, there’s been a major change in leadership. Former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed captain, replacing Younis Khan, who successfully led the team to the final in the first season of the tournament. The team and fans are hopeful that Hafeez’s experience and calm leadership will help Pakistan go one step further this time.

Afridi Praises Team Balance and Young Talent

Speaking to Geo News during a pre-match training session at Edgbaston, Afridi shared his thoughts about the squad and their chances in the tournament.

“We have a wonderful squad again this year. The team’s combination is very strong,” Afridi said. “Last year, we had a great campaign in the first season. But this time, we are aiming to win the title.”

Afridi also highlighted the addition of younger players and the excitement of having Hafeez as the new captain.

“This time, we have more young talent. Last year, Younis Khan did a great job, and now Hafeez is taking over. It’s nice to see our past legends continuing to guide the new generation. Our goal is to win and make fans proud.”

Big Clash Against India Champions on July 20

One of the most awaited matches in the tournament will be Pakistan Champions vs India Champions, scheduled for Sunday, July 20, again at Edgbaston. India Champions are the defending champions, and the rivalry between the two nations always draws global attention.

Afridi acknowledged the importance of this fixture:

“Every match is important, but when it’s Pakistan vs India, the atmosphere is on another level. There’s always a different energy and excitement. I hope the fans will fill the stadium to support us.”

Team Owner Kamil Khan Aims for Glory

Kamil Khan, the owner of the Pakistan Champions team, also shared his thoughts before the tournament. He is confident about the team’s strength and is looking forward to a successful campaign.

“We have come here with a fresh mindset and strong motivation. The team is very talented, but we know that all other teams are also strong. We want to go one step further than last time and win the title,” said Kamil.

He also mentioned how the tournament has grown since last year, attracting more fans and media attention:

“There’s a lot of buzz around the WCL this time. Fans are more involved, and every game will be competitive. It won’t be easy, but we are ready for the challenge.”

Strong Squad with Experienced All-Rounders

Kamil Khan pointed out the advantage of having many all-rounders, which is especially helpful in English playing conditions. He also mentioned that the tournament is giving a great chance to players who still have the potential to play for Pakistan but are not currently in the national team setup.

“We have senior players like Imad Wasim, Asif Ali, Umar Amin, and our captain Hafeez. Alongside them, we have big names like Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik. It’s a very balanced team with many options for different situations.”

“We are also supporting players who are not part of the PCB’s current plans but still have a lot to offer. For example, Amir Yamin did very well in the first season, and he is back again to prove himself.”

Coach Arshad Khan Talks About Team Fitness and Form

Arshad Khan, the head coach of Pakistan Champions, is happy with the team’s overall fitness and preparation. He shared that most of the squad has remained active by playing in club or domestic matches.

“This year, we have fresh and energetic players like Asif Ali, Hafeez, Umar Amin, and Rumman Raees. We also have experienced stars like Wahab Riaz, Sohail Tanvir, Sohaib Maqsood, and Amir Yamin,” said Arshad.

“Many of them have recently played competitive cricket, and even our senior players are fully fit. We also have some valuable practice time before our first game, which will help us fix any weak areas.”

The Pakistan Champions are stepping into the second edition of the World Championship of Legends with a powerful mix of youth and experience. With fresh leadership, high morale, and a balanced team, fans are hopeful that this year, the team will bring the title home and create more memorable moments on the field.
