Shadab Khan Undergoes Shoulder Surgery in UK, Set for Long Recovery

Pakistan’s T20 vice-captain and star all-rounder Shadab Khan has successfully undergone surgery on his right shoulder in the United Kingdom. The procedure was carried out on Sunday, and Shadab personally confirmed the news through a post on his social media account.

In his heartfelt message from the hospital bed, Shadab shared a picture and wrote,
“Alhamdulillah, the surgery went well. Recovery and rehab up next. Request you to keep me in your prayers.”

According to close sources and media reports, Shadab had been suffering from continuous pain and discomfort in his right shoulder for several months. Despite trying different treatments, the issue persisted. After thorough consultations with medical specialists in both Pakistan and the UK, it was decided that surgery was the best solution to avoid long-term damage and ensure proper healing.

Doctors have advised that Shadab will need at least three months of complete rest and rehabilitation. During this time, he will undergo regular physiotherapy sessions and physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility in his shoulder.

Due to this, Shadab has been officially ruled out of Pakistan’s upcoming limited-overs series against Bangladesh and the West Indies. There’s also uncertainty surrounding his availability for the Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to take place in September.

As of now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not issued an official statement regarding the exact timeline of his recovery or when he might return to competitive cricket.

This development comes just as Pakistan prepares for an important three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, set to begin next month. The absence of a senior player like Shadab is a major blow for the team, especially since other key players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi are also currently not part of the squad for undisclosed reasons.

According to sources close to team management, the final squad for the Bangladesh series is expected to be announced next week. While no major changes are expected, one name that is reportedly under serious consideration is left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who could get a surprise call-up.

To prepare for the series, the Pakistan T20 team’s training camp will start on July 7 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. This camp will help new players settle in and give the coaching staff a chance to test different combinations in the absence of senior stars.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that all three T20 matches will be played at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. All matches will begin at 5:00 PM (Pakistan Standard Time).

  • Pakistan team arrival in Bangladesh: July 16
  • 1st T20I: July 20
  • 2nd T20I: July 22
  • 3rd T20I: July 24

The last time Pakistan and Bangladesh played a T20I series was in May 2025, when Pakistan hosted and swept the series 3-0. Pakistan delivered strong performances across all three matches, with both bat and ball.
