Saudi Arabia Allows Extension of Expired Visit Visas for Final Exit

Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) has introduced a new initiative to help people with expired visit visas. Under this new rule, anyone holding an expired visit visa—no matter the type or category—can now apply for a one-time extension. This extension is only allowed so they can make final preparations to leave the Kingdom legally.

This new rule officially started on 1st Muharram 1447 AH, which is equal to June 26, 2025. From this date, expired visa holders are given a 30-day grace period to fix their situation. But to benefit from this opportunity, they must pay all related fines and administrative charges first.

This move is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to better manage the residency system. The goal is to make it easier for people who have overstayed to leave the country in a proper and legal way. It also helps the government maintain order and follow its immigration laws more effectively.

According to Jawazat, this extension process can only be done online using the “Absher” platform, which is run by the Ministry of Interior. Applicants must use the “Tawasul” service inside Absher to send their request.

Officials strongly advise people to act fast if they qualify for this extension. They clearly warned that no second chances or extra time will be given once the 30-day period is over.

Earlier this month, Saudi authorities carried out a major crackdown on illegal residents and workers across the country. This enforcement campaign lasted one week and was part of a larger effort to control illegal residency and labor violations.

Between May 8 and May 14, 2025, security forces arrested a total of 14,987 individuals in different regions. The breakdown of arrests includes:

  • 9,212 people violating residency laws
  • 3,502 people breaking border security rules
  • 1,873 people caught violating labor laws

The government has been stepping up efforts to catch violators and apply the law strictly. These arrests show how serious Saudi Arabia is about stopping illegal residency and ensuring that everyone in the country follows the proper legal process.
