Ramiz Raja Warns Pakistan: Death Bowling Must Improve Before Asia Cup 2025

Former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja has expressed concerns about Pakistan’s bowling performance as the Asia Cup 2025 approaches. He stressed that if the team wants to win the tournament, they must work hard on improving their death bowling, which has been a weak area in recent matches.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Raja warned that the Asia Cup will be played on batting-friendly pitches, and top teams will not spare poor bowling in the final overs.

“Pakistan’s death bowling needs improvement, especially with the Asia Cup coming up. Strong teams on good batting surfaces will not let this type of bowling go unpunished. Pakistan must develop better strategies in this area,” Raja said.

Raja also gave valuable advice to Sufiyan Muqeem, Pakistan’s young wrist-spinner who has often been used in the final overs. While praising his potential, Raja highlighted the need for more variety in his bowling style.

“Sufiyan Muqeem is talented and still learning. His line and length are good, but he should not bowl in the same pattern again and again. He must use more googlies and chinaman deliveries to avoid becoming predictable,” Raja explained.

The former captain also took a moment to appreciate Asif Khan, a player who once featured in Pakistan’s domestic cricket but never made it to the national side. Now, representing the UAE cricket team, Asif is proving himself as a reliable and powerful batsman.

“Asif Khan has shown how big a hitter he is. He was never given recognition in Pakistan, but now with the UAE, he has already played two outstanding innings in ODI cricket. He is truly a talented cricketer,” Raja said.

Raja’s overall message was clear: while Pakistan’s batting looks promising, the death bowling remains a major concern. If the team wants to compete with the best in the Asia Cup, bowlers must improve their performance in the final overs, and youngsters like Sufiyan Muqeem need to bring more variations to their game.

At the same time, stories like Asif Khan’s rise with the UAE highlight the importance of giving opportunities to talented players before they shine elsewhere.
