Rabi-ul-Awwal Moon Sighting: What Date Will 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal Fall On?

Pakistan’s national space agency, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), has released its scientific forecast regarding the sighting of the moon for the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.

According to the SUPARCO spokesperson, the moon of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 Hijri is expected to be born on August 23, 2025, at 11:06 AM (Pakistan Standard Time). By the evening of August 24, the new moon will be around 32 hours and 13 minutes old, which makes it scientifically mature enough to be visible under clear weather conditions.

The spokesperson further explained that in the country’s coastal areas, there will be a time difference of 45 minutes between sunset and moonset, creating favorable conditions for sighting the crescent. Due to this, the chances of the moon being visible on August 24 are quite high across Pakistan.

Based on this calculation, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal is expected to fall on Monday, August 25, 2025. Consequently, 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal, the day when Muslims celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), will likely be observed on Friday, September 5, 2025.

However, SUPARCO also emphasized that the final and official decision regarding the moon sighting will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which considers both scientific data and physical sightings reported from different regions of the country.
