Punjab Launches Free Online Birth and Death Registration via NADRA App

LAHORE: In a major step to ease public service access, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the removal of all fees for birth and death registrations across the province. The decision was put into effect immediately and is part of a broader effort to simplify important civil processes for the people of Punjab, according to a report by ARY News.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that every citizen has the basic right to have a legal identity. She added that the government is working hard to make services more accessible and to remove the difficulties that many people face when registering vital life events like births and deaths. “Identity is the right of every person, and we want to make sure that no one is left behind,” she said.

One of the major updates is that digital registration of births and deaths will now be mandatory in Punjab. This means that anyone who wants to access certain government services will need to have their or their family members’ births and deaths officially recorded online. This step will help protect the legal and civil rights of citizens by ensuring timely and proper documentation.

Under the new Punjab Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025, which are now officially active, citizens can register these events for free at their local Union Councils and Municipal Committees. This free registration is available for cases going back up to seven years.

Another big change is that people no longer need to get a court decree (a legal order from the court) for registering a birth or death that happened in the past. This rule was often seen as a big hurdle for many families. Removing this requirement will save people time, money, and stress. The whole process has been made much simpler and faster.

Punjab Birth and Death Registration Rules 2025:

  • No fees for registering births and deaths that occurred within the last seven years
  • No court order needed for late registrations
  • Digital certificates are now required to access many services
  • Computerised certificates will be given free of cost

This initiative is part of the Punjab government’s plan to modernise civil record systems and provide people with easier, faster access to essential services. By going digital, the government also hopes to reduce fraud and make recordkeeping more efficient and secure.

To make the process even more convenient, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched a mobile application. This app allows people to register births, deaths, and changes in marital status directly from their homes.

The NADRA spokesperson said in a recent press release that this mobile app is a user-friendly tool designed to make civil registration quicker and more comfortable for everyone.

Now, with just a few taps on their smartphones, citizens can handle important life registrations without visiting government offices or standing in long lines. This not only saves time but also makes it easier for people living in remote areas to access vital services.

The Punjab government’s move is being praised for its citizen-friendly approach. It reflects a growing focus on using technology and transparency to improve public services and ensure that all citizens, especially those in rural and underserved communities, can benefit from government reforms.
