The Punjab government has announced a major housing project aimed at building 57,000 affordable homes across 21 districts of the province. The project is designed to support low and middle-income families struggling to buy homes.
According to the Punjab Housing Department, the scheme will be completed under a five-year plan. Houses will be built on government-owned land. In the first phase, 41 sites have been selected where 2,000 housing units will be constructed.
A spokesperson for the Housing Department said the initiative will provide quality and affordable housing through easy installment plans. The project will be developed in partnership with the World Bank and the private sector.
The government confirmed that each housing site will include basic facilities such as clean water, electricity, sewerage, schools, parks, and healthcare centers. Strict monitoring and regular inspections will be carried out to maintain construction quality.
The department also stated that the housing plan will soon be presented to the provincial cabinet for formal approval. After approval, work on the first phase is expected to begin quickly.
Officials and experts believe the project will not only reduce the housing shortage but also create new jobs in construction and related industries. If successful, it could become one of Punjab’s most important welfare and development programs.
