Punjab Govt Declares September 6 a Public Holiday for 12th Rabiul Awwal

The Punjab government has officially announced that Saturday, September 6, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday on the occasion of 12th Rabiul Awwal.

According to the government notification, all government and private offices, the Civil Secretariat, administrative departments, and outpatient departments (OPDs) of hospitals across the province will remain closed for the day. Schools, colleges, and universities will also not hold classes, giving students and employees alike a chance to participate in the religious events.

The holiday is being observed to celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him), a day of immense spiritual importance for Muslims around the world. It commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who is regarded as a mercy for mankind and the last messenger of Islam.

With Sunday, September 7, 2025, already being a weekly holiday, this announcement provides people with a two-day break over the weekend. Families are expected to take part in religious gatherings, special prayers, and community events that will be organized in mosques and public places.

Every year, on 12th Rabiul Awwal, Muslims across Pakistan and globally hold Milad processions, Mehfil-e-Naat, Quran recitations, and religious conferences. Homes, mosques, and streets are decorated with lights and flags to honor the day. Many people also distribute food and sweets among relatives, neighbors, and the less privileged, reflecting the teachings of kindness and generosity.

The date of 12th Rabiul Awwal falls in the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is regarded as one of the most sacred and significant days in the Muslim world. It is not only a day of celebration but also an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the life, character, and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and to renew their commitment to follow his message of peace, compassion, and justice.
