The Punjab government has announced a plan to distribute 10,000 free electric bikes to deserving male and female students across the province. This initiative is aimed at helping students, especially those from low-income backgrounds, who face difficulties in traveling to school or college due to transportation challenges. By providing these bikes, the government hopes to make it easier for students to commute, reducing their financial burden and supporting their education.
This important decision was made during a meeting of the sub-committee of the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council. The meeting was led by Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Zakat and Ushr. He guided the discussions and ensured the smooth execution of the plan.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Senator Dr. Ghaus Muhammad Khan Niazi, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Zubair Ahmed, who is the Parliamentary Secretary for Zakat and Ushr, and other important members of the provincial assembly. The Administrator of Zakat and Ushr Punjab, along with senior officials from various departments, were also present to discuss the details of the program.
During the meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the free electric bikes would be given to students who qualify for Zakat assistance. Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah announced that the first phase of the distribution would involve the allocation of 2,000 bikes to deserving students.
Nasrullah further explained that the e-bike initiative was launched under the instructions of Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, and it is part of the government’s broader efforts to assist students and other vulnerable groups. He also promised that additional welfare programs would be introduced in the future to further help Zakat beneficiaries and other people in need, showing the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of the less fortunate in the province.
