The Punjab Education Department has officially finalized the academic schedule for the 2025-26 session, setting April 1 as the commencement date for new classes across the province. The decision ensures a smooth transition between academic years, allowing students and teachers to prepare accordingly.
Meanwhile, the annual examinations for the current academic session (2024-25) will take place from March 10 to March 20. Over 6.5 million students enrolled in more than 42,000 government schools across Punjab are expected to participate in these exams. The results are scheduled for release in the last week of March, giving students adequate time to prepare for the next academic phase.
In a significant update, the examination structure for matriculation students has undergone changes. The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has revised the marking scheme for two key subjects—Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies. Previously carrying 50 marks each, both subjects will now have a total of 100 marks. Under the revised system, Islamic Studies will be assessed in ninth grade, while Pakistan Studies will be examined in tenth grade.
To align with these changes, the syllabus for both subjects has been updated, and the new content has been incorporated into revised textbooks. The printing process for these updated textbooks is currently in progress to ensure their availability before the new academic year begins.
Education officials believe that these modifications will strengthen students’ grasp of Islamic and national studies, fostering a deeper understanding of the subjects. The new marking structure is also expected to raise academic standards by encouraging a more comprehensive evaluation of students’ knowledge.
By implementing these reforms, Punjab’s education authorities aim to enhance the learning experience and ensure a more effective assessment system that benefits students in the long run.
