Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans to introduce a special bus service for rural women across the province. This initiative aims to provide safe, comfortable, and affordable transportation for women traveling in remote areas.
“The safety and respect of women traveling in public transport will be ensured under all circumstances,” CM Maryam stated after authorities took strict action against a bus driver and conductor in Sargodha for their violent behavior towards homeless women.
The announcement comes after a disturbing incident in Jhawarian, where a bus driver and conductor got into an argument with women over a fare dispute. The situation escalated when the driver, Shaukat, and conductor, Shamsher, physically assaulted the women.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the victims crying for help. This led to swift action by law enforcement, resulting in the arrest of the perpetrators. The Punjab government has since reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring women’s safety in public transport.
Meanwhile, CM Maryam Nawaz also shared a major update on Punjab’s digital transformation during Digital Learning Day. She highlighted ongoing efforts to provide international-standard IT training programs for youth across the province.
