PTA Warns Unregistered Mobile Phones to Be Blocked Soon

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important public alert, warning citizens that all unregistered mobile phones will soon be blocked from working on local networks. This means that any phone that is not officially registered will lose its ability to make calls, send messages, or use mobile data services. To avoid such problems, PTA has strongly advised people to register their devices using the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). This system was introduced to make sure only legal and verified devices operate in Pakistan.

According to PTA, unregistered phones are a serious concern because they can be misused for illegal purposes. Such devices are often smuggled into the country without paying taxes and duties. More importantly, PTA has warned that these unverified phones can be used for financial scams, identity theft, or other cybercrimes, which directly threaten national security. The authority made it clear that buying, selling, or using these illegal phones is against the law and counts as a punishable offense under Pakistan’s telecommunication regulations.

PTA also reminded the public that unregistered devices are not recognized in the country’s official system. This makes them unreliable and unsafe for consumers. People who continue to use such phones not only risk losing their mobile services but also face possible fines and legal action. PTA urged customers to avoid purchasing phones from unauthorized sellers or black markets, as these devices usually turn out to be unregistered and can cause problems later.

To protect mobile users, PTA has given people a limited period of time to take action. All citizens are advised to check whether their phones are registered by visiting the DIRBS website or sending their phone’s IMEI number through SMS to the official PTA helpline. If the device is unregistered, users must complete the registration process immediately to avoid losing service. PTA highlighted that registering a phone is a simple process and helps ensure that people can use their devices without any interruptions.

In its closing message, the authority assured the public that this step is not meant to create difficulties but to protect both the telecom sector and the users themselves. By blocking unregistered devices, PTA aims to stop smuggling, reduce cybercrime, and provide a safer communication network for everyone in Pakistan.
