The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Gilgit, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing, successfully carried out an operation against the illegal sale of international SIM cards. This move is part of an intensified effort to combat unauthorized telecom activities that pose potential security threats.
According to an official statement from PTA, the raid was conducted in Danyore, Gilgit, where six UK SIM cards were seized, and two individuals involved in the illicit trade were apprehended. The FIA Cyber Crime Wing has launched a detailed investigation to trace the larger network behind the illegal distribution of foreign SIM cards in the region.
The sale and use of unauthorized foreign SIM cards pose serious national security risks, as these numbers can be exploited for fraud, cybercrimes, and other illicit activities. PTA emphasized that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal SIM trade, ensuring compliance with telecom regulations to protect consumers and national security.
PTA has urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to unauthorized SIM sales. The Authority encourages citizens to provide information about illegal telecom practices through its official complaint channels.
