In a big action against illegal mobile phone activities, the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) Zonal Office in Faisalabad teamed up with the FIA’s Cyber Crime Reporting Center (CCRC) to stop phone tampering, IMEI cloning, and selling of such devices. Together, they carried out three successful raids at popular mobile phone shops located in the busy commercial area of Faisalabad—Kacheri Bazar near Clock Tower.
During these raids, the teams found and recovered seventeen mobile phones that had been illegally modified from two mobile retail shops. From one repair shop, they also seized a bait handset and a laptop that had special software called Chimera. This software is often used to change or clone the IMEI numbers of mobile phones, which is against the law. Five people were arrested during the operations, and the FIA has filed official complaints (FIRs) against them.
These strong actions are part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to stop telecom-related crimes in the country. By doing this, they aim to protect the national economy and improve public safety. When criminals change the IMEI numbers of phones, it becomes very difficult to trace calls and messages. These untraceable phones are often used for dangerous activities like online fraud, kidnapping, and other serious crimes.
PTA has also asked the public to be careful and report any mobile phone tampering or cloning they notice. The authorities are continuing strict checks, and anyone caught breaking the law will be punished according to the rules.
