PCB Proposes T20I Series Instead of ODIs for West Indies Tour 2025

PCB Proposes T20I Series Instead of ODIs for West Indies Tour 2025

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still waiting for a response from the Cricket West Indies (CWI) regarding its proposal to replace the upcoming One Day Internationals (ODIs) with T20 Internationals (T20Is) during Pakistan’s tour of the Caribbean. The PCB made this request as part of its efforts to give the team more match practice in the T20 format ahead of key international tournaments.

If the West Indies board agrees to the change, Pakistan is expected to announce a combined squad for both the West Indies and Bangladesh T20I series. This will help the team maintain continuity and better prepare for back-to-back matches.

As per the original schedule, Pakistan is set to play three T20Is and three ODIs against the West Indies. However, if the ODIs are not converted, the selectors will need to announce additional players for the 50-over format. On the other hand, if the proposal is approved, the T20I series could be extended to five or even six matches. The first T20I is tentatively planned for July 31.

An official confirmation is expected soon as talks between the two cricket boards are ongoing. The main reason behind this proposed change is to provide both teams with valuable T20 match experience before the 2025 ACC Men’s Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, both of which will be played in the T20 format.

Tentative West Indies Series Schedule (If Original Plan Remains):

  • July 31: First T20I
  • August 2: Second T20I
  • August 3: Third T20I
  • August 8: First ODI
  • August 10: Second ODI
  • August 12: Third ODI
(All matches expected to be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad)

Pakistan Set for T20I Series in Bangladesh Before West Indies Tour

Before heading to the Caribbean, the Pakistan national team will play a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that all matches will take place at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

The Pakistan team is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on July 16, giving them a few days to prepare before the series kicks off. All three matches will begin at 6:00 PM local time (5:00 PM PST).

This series is seen as an important step for Pakistan’s preparation, especially after their clean sweep (3-0) against Bangladesh in May on home soil. It will also help the team finalize combinations and strategies for the upcoming tournaments.

Full Schedule – T20I Series in Bangladesh:

  • July 16: Pakistan team arrives in Dhaka
  • July 20: First T20I at Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (6:00 PM local time)
  • July 22: Second T20I at Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (6:00 PM local time)
  • July 24: Third T20I at Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (6:00 PM local time)

In summary, Pakistan’s cricket calendar is packed with crucial matches in July and August. The PCB’s proposal to convert the ODIs into T20Is reflects the team’s strategic focus on the shorter format ahead of major international tournaments. Fans now eagerly await the official confirmation from the West Indies board to see how the final schedule unfolds.
