PCB Plans T20I Series Against Sri Lanka Ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup

The Pakistan cricket team may soon face Sri Lanka as part of their final preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is eager to arrange a short T20 series before the major tournament begins, aiming to give the players valuable match practice and exposure to similar playing conditions.

According to senior sports journalist Saleem Khaliq, the PCB is working hard to organize a three-match T20 International series in January next year. The goal is to help the team adapt to the weather and pitch conditions in Sri Lanka — one of the co-hosts of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Negotiations between the PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are currently underway, with both cricket boards showing strong interest in finalizing the plan soon. The matches are expected to be held in Colombo and Galle, two of Sri Lanka’s most popular cricket venues.

If the series goes ahead, it will serve as an important warm-up opportunity for Pakistan just weeks before the T20 World Cup begins in February 2026. Playing in Sri Lanka would give the Green Shirts valuable experience on spin-friendly and slower pitches — conditions they are likely to face during the global event. This would also allow the team management to test different combinations, fine-tune strategies, and assess player form before the tournament.

Although an official announcement has not been made yet, reliable sources indicate that the series is very likely to happen. The relationship between the two cricket boards remains friendly, making it easier to finalize such arrangements. Moreover, Sri Lanka is already scheduled to participate in a tri-nation series in Pakistan next month, so another bilateral series could also help their team prepare better for the World Cup.

As the countdown to the T20 World Cup continues, this potential Pakistan-Sri Lanka series could be the last major test of Pakistan’s strength, strategy, and mental readiness. With global attention on the tournament, the PCB seems determined to ensure that the national team enters the competition in top form and with maximum confidence.
