Heavy Monsoon Rains Expected from July 28

According to the latest update from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office), weak monsoon winds are currently blowing across the upper and central regions of the country. These winds are expected to get stronger starting from July 28. Additionally, a westerly weather system is likely to move into the country on July 29, which will further increase chances of rainfall in various regions.

Due to these upcoming weather systems, the following areas are likely to experience rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with some places receiving heavy rainfall. Here is a detailed breakdown of the expected weather conditions:

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan

From July 27 to July 31, people in Azad Jammu & Kashmir should prepare for rain with strong winds and thunderstorms. Some areas may experience heavy rain at certain times. The regions most likely to be affected include:

  • Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.

At the same time, Gilgit-Baltistan will also face similar weather conditions. The expected rain will not be continuous but will come with occasional breaks. Areas such as:

  • Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar
    can expect rain and thunderstorms during this period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)

From July 28 to July 31, most districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to receive rain, thunder, and strong winds, along with isolated heavy downpours in some areas. Rain will come in intervals, not nonstop. Affected areas include:

  • Northern and upper regions: Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand
  • Tribal and central regions: Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi
  • Southern belt: Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan

People in these areas should stay updated and take precautions to avoid any problems caused by heavy rain or flooding.

Punjab and Islamabad

In Punjab and Islamabad, widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected between July 28 and July 31. Some places may receive scattered heavy rainfall, especially in the upper and central parts of the province. Areas likely to be affected include:

  • Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Kasur, and Okara

In the southern parts of Punjab, rain and thunderstorms are expected from July 29 to July 31, with occasional heavy spells. Affected areas include:

  • Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Kot Addu

People are advised to stay alert during this time, especially in areas where drainage systems are weak, as heavy rains can lead to water accumulation or flash flooding.

Balochistan

From the night of July 29 till July 31, parts of Northeastern and Southern Balochistan are expected to receive rain, wind, and thunderstorms, with chances of isolated heavy rainfall. The areas likely to be affected include:

  • Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Dera Bugti, Kohlu, Lasbela, Awaran, Khuzdar, Quetta, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Qilla Abdullah, Ziarat, Kalat, and Sherani

Travelers and residents in these areas should be careful, especially in hilly or landslide-prone zones.

Sindh

For most parts of Sindh, the weather will remain mainly hot and humid. However, some areas will receive rain, wind, and thunderstorms between July 30 and 31, though not continuously. Expected rainfall areas include:

  • Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Mithi, Khairpur, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, and Larkana

While rain may bring some relief from the heat, it could also cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. Residents should stay prepared.
