The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) are expected to sit down for important talks during the upcoming ICC Annual General Meeting in Singapore. One of the key points on their agenda will be the future of the three-match ODI series, currently scheduled to take place in August in the Caribbean.
The PCB has officially requested that the One Day Internationals (ODIs) be changed to Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). This change would help the Pakistani team better prepare for two major upcoming tournaments—the Asia Cup in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2026. However, Cricket West Indies is not in favor of this change. They want to stick to the original plan and play the 50-over matches as scheduled.
According to a report by Geo Super, the final decision will likely be made after detailed discussions between the two boards during the ICC meetings in Singapore. Both sides will present their reasons and try to find common ground.
Cricket West Indies also has strong reasons for wanting to keep the ODIs. The West Indies team failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup, and the board is now working to rebuild its one-day team. The upcoming series against Pakistan is seen as a key part of that rebuilding process. In fact, CWI has already started selling tickets for both T20I and ODI matches, which shows they are preparing to host both formats.
CWI’s CEO, Chris Dehring, addressed the situation by saying, “The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter.” His statement confirms that the board is still in talks with Pakistan, and no final decision has been made yet.
As of now, three T20I matches have already been confirmed. These games will take place in Florida on July 31, August 2, and August 3. The fate of the ODI matches is still uncertain. If no changes are made, the ODIs will be held on August 8, 10, and 12 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
Pakistan’s tour to the USA and the Caribbean will follow right after their T20I series against Bangladesh. Because of the ongoing discussions, the PCB has decided to wait for the final decision from the ICC meeting in Singapore before announcing their squad for the Caribbean leg of the tour.
Whether the tour ends with a traditional ODI series, is turned into a full T20I series, or results in a compromise between the two boards, will be decided soon. Fans from both countries are eagerly waiting to see what happens next.
