Big travel update for tourists and frequent travelers! Oman and Turkey have announced a mutual visa-free travel agreement that will allow citizens of both countries to visit each other without applying for a visa in advance. This is a very positive step that will make travel easier, faster, and more affordable.
The new visa-free policy will officially begin on November 1, 2025. From this date, eligible travelers can simply book their tickets, pack their bags, and travel without the stress of paperwork or long visa processing times. This decision is expected to greatly increase tourism and people-to-people connections between the two nations.
A Big Boost for Tourism and Travel
Turkey and Oman are both popular tourist destinations, known for their rich history, natural beauty, and welcoming cultures. With the removal of visa requirements, more people are expected to travel for holidays, short trips, and family visits. Travel agencies, airlines, hotels, and local businesses in both countries are also likely to benefit from this increase in visitors.
This agreement also helps strengthen cultural exchange. Travelers will get the chance to experience local traditions, food, architecture, and lifestyle more closely, helping both nations understand each other better.
Who Is Eligible for Visa-Free Travel?
The visa-free travel facility is available to:
- Citizens of Oman and Turkey
- Travelers holding ordinary passports only
This policy does not apply to holders of diplomatic, official, or special passports.
The visa-free entry is mainly allowed for:
- Tourism and sightseeing
- Short-term visits
- Family and social trips
Anyone planning to work, study, or stay for a long period must still follow the regular visa or residency rules.
Allowed Stay Duration Explained Simply
- Omani passport holders traveling to Turkey can stay for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
- Turkish passport holders traveling to Oman can stay 30 days per visit, with a total stay of no more than 90 days within any 180-day period.
This system allows travelers to make multiple short trips as long as they do not exceed the allowed number of days.
Important Entry Rules to Remember
Even though a visa is not required, travelers must meet basic entry conditions:
- A passport that is valid for at least six months
- A return ticket or onward travel proof, if requested
- Sufficient travel plans for a short stay
There is no need to apply for a visa online or at an embassy before traveling.
Strong Leadership Behind the Agreement
This visa-free deal was finalized after high-level discussions between Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. President Erdogan described the agreement as a historic and meaningful step, saying it will support cooperation not only in tourism but also in business, investment, and public services.
Both leaders expressed their commitment to building long-term partnerships that benefit their people and economies.
Part of a Larger Cooperation Plan
The visa waiver is just one part of a wider partnership. During the official visit, Oman and Turkey signed 16 cooperation agreements in key sectors such as:
- Defense and security
- Energy and natural resources
- Mining and industry
- Media and communication
- Trade and investment
They also agreed to create an Oman–Turkey Coordination Council, which will help manage future projects and strengthen cooperation between government institutions.
Oman’s Open-Door Travel Policy
Oman is actively working to attract more international tourists. The country has already introduced visa-free or simplified visa policies for several nations, including Russia and Armenia. These steps show Oman’s goal to become a major travel and tourism hub in the Middle East.
Oman offers visitors stunning landscapes, peaceful deserts, beautiful coastlines, traditional markets, historic forts, and world-famous hospitality.
Turkey’s Growing Appeal for Omani Travelers
Turkey continues to attract millions of visitors every year. From the historical streets of Istanbul and ancient ruins to modern cities, scenic beaches, and Cappadocia’s famous hot air balloons, Turkey offers something for everyone. The visa-free policy will make Turkey even more attractive for Omani tourists.
Planning a Trip in 2026 or Beyond?
Now is a great time to start planning. Whether you want to enjoy Turkey’s lively cities and cultural sites or relax in Oman’s natural beauty and heritage locations, travel between the two countries is now much simpler.
